THE NEW BOHO-CHIC JEWELRY TRENDS FROM THE FALL 2023 RUNWAYS

by Sofía Calzetti

When we predicted in our Spring 2023 jewelry trend report that boho-chic was making a comeback, we weren’t just guessing. T he festival b eads and toe rings that graced last season’s runways hinted at the return of the mid-2000s aesthetic, even if the ready-to-wear collections hadn’t fully embraced it yet. Fast forward to the Fall 2023 shows, and fashion has caught up. With flowing blouses, leather capelets, golden animal jewelry at Chemena Kamali’s Chloé debut, and boho icon Sienna Miller seated front row, the revival is officially here.
But do the jewelry trends from the new collections signal another trend revival? Not quite. Despite what TikTok might suggest, the trend cycle isn’t moving at lightning speed. Instead, the Fall 2024 jewelry collections are redefining and contextualizing the boho aesthetic for today. Rather than the Coachella-ready infinity necklaces of yesteryear, we’re seeing an abundance of minimalist drop pendants, with designers like Bottega Veneta, Gabriela Hearst, and Tom Ford opting for polished stones and abstract metal shapes suspended from thin chains and leather cords. Animal motifs have also made a return, but with a more refined twist—think Chloé’s antique gold snake motifs and mini horse heads, and Jonathan Anderson’s tiny doves painted on signet rings.
Elsewhere, silky necklaces reflect a collective yearning for softness and comfort amidst the world’s harsh realities, while Calder-esque earrings, sculptural necklaces, and brooches offer an expressive counterpoint to the now-overplayed quiet luxury trend. It’s all about adding a touch of chic to the new boho.
